Project Summary: 

This competitively bid, public works project for the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District located in Livermore, California involved a 1.5 Megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic ground-mount system. Cupertino Electric's Energy Alternatives Division engineered and constructed the solar system between fall 2011 and early 2012 on the district’s six acres of land in Livermore, California to help reduce the district’s operational costs. The power generated by the photovoltaic system during the life of the system is anticipated to be 34,229,925 kilowatt-hours (kWh), which is equal to reducing the annual greenhouse gas emissions from 4,628 passenger vehicles. In addition to the solar system, Cupertino Electric conducted an energy audit and is retrofitting traditional lights with LED lights at the district to realize a nearly 50 percent (50%) energy savings with the new fixtures. We also retrofitting new mechanical equipment with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to create a more efficient mechanical system to serve the school’s needs.
